Karl Martens es el pintor de la aves por excelencia. Sus acuarelas sumamente sutiles muestran a estos animales en todo su esplendor. A veces inacabados, a veces con sorprendente detalle, cada obra parece dar vida a un hermoso animal con alas.

El pintor se recrea en las manchas de color de su plumaje y en sus miradas profundas. Muchas veces deja inacabado los limites de sus cuerpos, como si solo fueran efímeras improntas de la naturaleza.

Lo que nos impresiona, no son los sutiles, aunque también a veces intensos colores que emplea, si no la vida que parece emanar de cada una de sus aves. Es todo un maestro de la acuarela.

Beautiful birds

Karl Martens is the quintessential bird painter. His extremely subtle watercolors show these animals in all their splendor. Sometimes unfinished, sometimes with surprising details, each work brings a beautiful, winged animal to life.

The painter delights himself in the spots of color of the plumage and in their intense look. Very often he leaves the bounderies of their bodies unfinished, as if they were only ephemeral imprints of nature.

What impresses us, is not the subtle, yet sometimes also intense colours that he employs, but the life that seems to emanate from each of his birds. He is a master of watercolour.
