La artista de la semana nos sorprende con tapices increíblemente bellos. Ella es Sophie Standing y se ha especializado en crear con telas e hilos de colores grandes piezas textiles representando principalmente animales salvajes.

De origen británico hoy en día vive y trabaja en las Seychelles, pero paso 15 años de su vida en Kenya donde vivió de cerca la flora y la fauna de ese país africano tan autentico. La gran influencia que se llevo, queda patente en cada una de sus obras.

La combinación de la técnica de la aplicación y el bordado con hilos de infinidad de colores le permite entrar en tantos detalles como precisa para crear un obra tan realista como fantasiosa a la vez, ya que sus animales están repletos de flores y hojas impresas en las telas empleadas. Pero justamente ahí, en esa aparente incongruencia radica su especial encanto.

Fabulous textile creations

The artist of the week surprises us with incredibly beautiful tapestries. She is Sophie Standing and has specialized in creating large textile pieces with fabrics and colored threads representing mainly wild animals.

Of British origin she lives and works now in the Seychelles, but has spent 15 years of her life in Kenya where she came to know closely the flora and fauna of that authentic African country. The great influence that she took with her, is evident in each and every of her works.

The combination of the technique of application and embroidery with threads of infinity of colors allows her to enter in as many details as it is necessary to create a work as realistic as imaginative at the same time, since her animals are full of flowers and leaves printed on the fabrics used. But right there, in that apparent incongruity lies its special charm.
