Ernst Ludwig Kirchner
Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, one of the most important representatives of the pictorial expressionism is the artist that we portray this Saturday.
Born in 1880 in Aschaffenburg / Germany, he died in 1938 in Switzerland due to suicide, given his precarious mental health, which had been conditioning his life since at a young age he was recruited for World War I. In the year of his suicide the National Socialists had taken power, destroying an important part of the work of his youth.
In 1905, when he was only 25 years old, he founded the famous German Expressionist group Die Brücke (the Bridge) with 4 companions, a style which radically changed the way of conceiving art. The undisputed protagonist the color, almost always primary or with few nuances, the flat shapes and an intentional negligence for the volumes and perspective. It is also characterized by broad brushstrokes, thick lines and - as a most important value - the spontaneity and speed in executing the work.
