John William Waterhouse ist heute der Künstler von Damals, den wir jeweils am letzten Samstag des Monats präsentieren.

Als Sohn von Künstlern lebte er zwischen 1849 und 1917 in England, obwohl er in Italien geboren wurde. Aus diesem Grund konnte er schon sehr früh in die Welt der Kunst eintauchen, und da er sehr begabt für die Malerei war, war es nicht verwunderlich, dass er den Schritten seiner Eltern folgte und Malerei an den damals renommiertesten Hochschulen studierte.

Sein ganzes Leben lang war der Stil seiner Gemälde von seinem geliebten Italien geprägt, das er als Erwachsener viele Male bereiste. Zuerst waren seine Themen aus dem Neoklassizismus, aber er ging zu romantischen und symbolistischen Motiven über. Zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt seiner Karriere wird er auch zu den präraffaelitischen Malern gezählt, und sogar hat er auch eine von den Impressionisten geprägte Periode durchlaufen.

John William Waterhouse

John William Waterhouse is today the ancient artist we presented on the last Saturday of the month.

Son of artists, he lived between 1849 and 1917 in England, although he was born in Italy. For that reason he could be submerged from very early age in the world of the art and given that he had some very special gifts for the painting it was not strange that he followed the steps of his parents, studying Painting in the most prestigious Colleges.

Throughout his life the style of his paintings was marked by his beloved Italy, to which he traveled many times in his adulthood. At first his themes were neoclassicism, but he moved on to more romantic and symbolist motifs. He is also listed among the Pre-Raphaelite painters at a later point in his career, also going through a period influenced by the Impressionists.

John William Waterhouse has very charismatic works and here you can see a selection of them. If you browse with his name on the Internet there will be many more works by this very talented painter.
